What to expect from consultation through healing

Most tattoos require a series of visits rather than a one-day treatment. The experience is easier to plan for when you know what happens before, during, and after each session.

Consultation

Your tattoo, skin tone, health history, prior laser work, ink colors, location, and treatment goal are reviewed. You receive an estimated number of sessions and per-session pricing before you commit.

Treatment session

Sessions are often short for small tattoos. The pulse is commonly described as a rubber-band snap. Cooling or numbing options are available to help manage discomfort.

Healing and fading

The treated area may look red, raised, or frosted afterward. Small blisters or scabbing can occur. Fading continues over the weeks that follow as fragmented ink clears.

Timing

Why sessions are usually spaced six to eight weeks apart

The waiting period gives your body time to clear fragmented ink and gives the skin time to heal before another laser pass. Treating the tattoo again immediately would not replace the biological clearing that has to happen between visits.

Because most tattoos need six to ten or more sessions, full removal commonly takes several months to a year or more. Where you land in that range depends on ink colors, density and depth, tattoo age, location, treatment settings, and previous removal work.

How painful is tattoo removal?

Most people describe the laser pulse as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, comparable to or somewhat more uncomfortable than getting the tattoo. Cooling methods or numbing options can be used to manage discomfort.

Aftercare instructions

  • Keep the treated area clean and moisturized.
  • Avoid sun exposure while the area heals.
  • Do not pick at blisters or scabs.
  • Expect fading to continue between sessions rather than immediately after treatment.
